The Noida Authority is trying to complete by June 30 its four underground and one multi-level parking projects at Botanical Garden that can accommodate 10,000 cars.
The Authority had earlier planned to open the parking facilities by March, but the projects got delayed because of the Lok Sabha poll process. These parking facilities will give relief from snarls on roads where cars line up haphazardly. As the area has a number of industrial and commercial houses, it sees substantial traffic during rush hours. The parking projects are coming up in Botanical Garden, sectors 38-A, 1, 3, 5 and another one in 16-A in Film City.
Officials said while the parking facilities in Botanical Garden were likely to be functional by June, the one at Film City will be ready by July.
Rajeev Tyagi, general manager at the Authority, said the projects were nearing completion. “This (multi-level parking) is a huge facility and can accommodate around 7000 vehicles alone. The project got delayed because of some technical reasons. Now, we have decided to complete it by June 30. We have called a review meeting on Monday,” he said.
Commissioned in 2015, the multilevel parking at Botanical Garden is an eight-storey facility, spread over 9,000 square metres and has two basement floors. The project’s civil work is over and workers are currently engaged in fixing the electrical system. The parking facility will benefit metro users and shoppers going to GIP Mall, Sector 18 and Atta markets. The underground parking projects in sectors 1, 3 and 5 are located in industrial areas. A number of people work in offices and factories in the vicinity and in the absence of a decent parking lot, vehicles line up haphazardly along the roads and cause jams.
The Noida Authority had waved off parking fee in the area in front of industrial units measuring not more than 1,800 sqm in October last year. However, this led to unregulated parking and encroached roads as around 90% of the 10,200 industrial units in Noida are less than 1,800sqm.
Apart from the parking facility in Botanical Garden, the one at Film City Sector 16-A, which can accommodate around 1,400 cars, will open in July. Authority officials said this parking facility will end the traffic mess in Film City, which houses several media organisations.
